Russell Freedman

Russell Freedman has written over thirty books for children and young adults, including Children of the Wild West, Immigrant Kids, Two Thousand Years of Space Travel, and Lincoln: A Photobiography. His book on Lincoln won the Newbery Award for the most distinguished contribution to children’s literature in 1988. Before writing that book, Freedman read widely, including all of Lincoln’s letters and his notes. At the end of the book, Freedman has a section called "In Lincoln’s Footsteps." There he lists all the historical sites he visited, places that played a part in Lincoln’s life. You yourself can follow this Lincoln Heritage Trail through Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
